about
For my final major project on the Kensington and Chelsea Art Foundation, I chose to explore the theme of storytelling. My initial research focused on folklore and the illustration associated with it - this lead to further exploration into different ways of presenting a narrative. (research can be found on submitted google docs files)

From this, I developed an idea focussed around the anonymity of the people we see on the internet. Reference photos, models, even stock images - these are all images of people deprived of context, with no attached narrative. I wanted to look at how easy it would be to take portrait photos and transform the models into characters in an entirely different narrative.

This process began with finding the portraits. I then wrote a short text about each, suggesting a story through different styles of writing (investigative journalism, poetry, creative writing, interview transcripts etc), and produced a collage/ inspiration board for each to give some insight into the visual language i could use. Finally, I produced the story itself.
